Thoughts From a First-Time ‘eBiker’

My wife has never been a big cyclist, let alone ever ridden an eBike. She rode her conventional bike every now and again but it wasn’t enjoyable, it was more of a chore. That all changed last spring when she had a chance to ride a RUSH/CTY STEP-THRU for the first time. I thought it would be fun to share her perspective as a non-cyclist and first-time eBiker.

“In 2018 I was living in Italy with a host family doing student teaching. In an attempt to gain some independence, I found an old bike and decided I would bike to and from my student-teaching job. I was not a bike rider by any means, but how hard could it be? I arrived at my teaching assignment after huffing and puffing up a few hills. The ride there wasn’t bad, but coming home was slightly more difficult. I ran into a couple curbs and the best part was when I fell over entirely, breaking the bicycle frame as I went over! That’s when I decided biking was just not for me. I didn’t have the physical ability, the coordination, or the desire.
For the next few years I got into hiking. I loved exploring new places but never felt like I could see as much as I wanted to. It was my husband who gave me the confidence to try biking again, this time on an eBike. I was hooked from day one! I never thought I would find biking so enjoyable. Since then I have been on rides in Utah, Oregon, California, and more. I not only have a new confidence for bike riding but I’m seeing things I never would have seen before. 20 miles on an eBike isn’t difficult and I get to experience so much more than I ever could have before.
If you think you’re inexperienced or maybe don’t even like to ride a bike, you should definitely give an eBike a shot. Turns out the addition of pedal-assist makes biking a lot easier and more fun than I ever expected. My very first ride was about 25 miles around Bryce Canyon. I was able to go from zero biking experience to pedaling 25 miles at once, and enjoying every mile.
As someone who is inexperienced I needed a riding experience that was easy and simple and Serial 1 fit that for me. My RUSH/CTY STEP-THRU has an auto-shifting hub so I never had to worry about switching gears while biking. This feature alone was a game-changer for someone like me.”  - Sydney Rimando

eBiking is so much fun, especially when the only thing you have to worry about is enjoying the ride!
